چکیده

The probability of working children and adolescents aged between 5 and 17 years experiencing work-related injury was estimated using the National Household Sample Survey (PNAD – Pesquisa Nacional de Amostras por Domićılio) for 2001. Due to the endogenous nature of the “use of personal protective equipment” variable that appears on the right-hand side of the “work-related injury” equation, a recursive simultaneous probit model was estimated. In addition, the marginal effects were discussed and the expressions analytically derived. The results showed that tools and chemical products were the main cause of work-related injury, but variables such as the educational level of the household head and family income were also important. Moreover, workers living in the northeast of Brazil and working in the agricultural sector were most likely to experience work-related injury.

Choice of dialysis treatment and type of medical unit (private vs public): application of a recursive bivariate probit.

ESRD patients have to deal with two choices: the first is related to the dialysis modality; the second concerns the type of dialysis unit (public vs private) where to undertake the treatment. Such a choice is related to unobservable factors, among which there might be patients' clinical factors as well as factors related to the characteristics of each unit. We employ a recursive bivariate probi...

Rural Households’ Awareness and Willingness to Pay for National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in Ilesha West Local Government Area, Osun State Nigeria: A Recursive Bivariate Probit Approach

The Nigerian health policy seeks to ensure adequate access of the population to affordable and quality healthcare services. The NHIS seeks to complement efforts already put in place for achieving this goal. This paper therefore analyzed the factors influencing awareness and willingness to pay for NHIS in rural Nigeria. The data were collected with structured questionnaires using multi-stage sam...

Copula bivariate probit models: with an application to medical expenditures.

The bivariate probit model is frequently used for estimating the effect of an endogenous binary regressor (the 'treatment') on a binary health outcome variable. This paper discusses simple modifications that maintain the probit assumption for the marginal distributions while introducing non-normal dependence using copulas. In an application of the copula bivariate probit model to the effect of ...

Investigating the impact of some socio-economic factors on the nutritional behavior of children and adolescents during the outbreak of covid-19 (a case study of Mashhad city)

Introduction Various surveys show that the economic and social status of the family affects the nutrition and growth of children. One of the vulnerable groups from the Covid-19 crisis are children and teenagers, who can reduce the amount and severity of their injuries by identifying the manner and extent of their vulnerability to various factors during the epidemic. methods The survey resear...

Estimation of Average Willingness to Pay from Double Bounded Dichotomous Choice Data: Does the “Follow Up” matter?†

In Double Bounded Dichotomous Choice (DBDC) Contingent Valuation (CV) studies estimated parameters of the first response equations are used to obtain Mean WTP because of the anchoring bias inherent in follow up responses. In this paper we show that through an efficient scheme of bid design and using a recursive probit model one can arrive at estimates of mean WTP using the follow up responses t...
